Senior Physician Medical Director
Gary Gansar, MD, is residency-trained in general surgery. He previously served as Chief of Surgery and Staff at Elmwood Medical Center and on the Medical Executive Committee at Touro Infirmary and Mercy Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Gansar also served as Clinical Instructor and Professor of Surgery at Tulane University. Dr. Gansar was Board Certified in general surgery while in active practice.
Dr. Gansar received his MD at Tulane University Medical School, where he served as Chief Resident. He joined AMFS as a consulting medical expert in 2011 and has served as an AMFS Physician Medical Director since 2015.

Physician Medical Director
Larry Slater, M.D. is Clinical Professor Emeritus, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Department of Family and Community Medicine. He practiced family medicine for 40 years before retiring in 2016. While in active practice, Dr. Slater focused on family medicine and obstetrics. Dr. Slater was a member of the teaching faculty at Sutter Santa Rosa’s nationally recognized family medicine residency program for more than 20 years. Dr. Slater is a graduate of the University of Southern California Medical School, completed his residency in Family Medicine and his fellowship in Family and Community Medicine at UCSF. He is an active member of the American Board of Family Medicine and has been board certified since 1979. He joined AMFS as a Physician Medical Director in 2019.
